53047 Erte (Romain de Tirtoff) Il n'y a pas de Rose sans epine (There is no Rose Without a Thorn) 1921 15 3/4'' x 11 1/2'' Gouache painting in color on paper-board. Signed lower right. Titled and annotated `Couverture No. 49' in ink on the reverse. Erte's address stamp and Harper's Bazar stamp on the reverse. This work was featured on the cover of Harper's Bazar, May 1921. This extremely rare gouache painting was also the study for the serigraph titled "The Pursuit of Flore" which was published in 1985.
