Rembrandt Van Rijn
236934 Rembrandt Van Rijn Abraham and Isaac 1645 B.34; BB.45-D; H.214; Bl.5 6'' x 5'' Etching and burin on laid paper with clean, substantial margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrant.1645., lower left. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two and Nowell Eusticke's second state of three with all four corners rounded but before a black spot about one inch to the left of Abraham's head. According to Nowell Eusticke, an intemediate second state impression as issued by P.F. Basan (1785-1797) showing the 30 mm gap at the top of the arch and the plate shaved slightly to remove the inky plates edges. Nowell Eusticke refers to this impression as "very good to fine". According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the Old Testament Genesis 22: 1-9. It is interesting to note that Biorklund Barnard indicates that the plate was signed and dated Rembrant 1645 and Nowell Eusticke indicates that the signature and date reads Rembrandt 1645.
