Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrant.1645., lower left. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two and Nowell Eusticke's third state of three with all four corners rounded and with a black spot about one inch to the left of Abraham's head. According to Nowell Eusticke, a late third state impression as issued by Bernard (1845) with the entire plate rebitten and reworked and the lines are more pronounced and not as fine and delicate. According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the Old Testament Genesis 22: 1-9. It is interesting to note that Biorklund Barnard indicates that the plate was signed and dated Rembrant 1645 and Nowell Eusticke indicates that the signature and date reads Rembrandt 1645.
