123106 Chagall, Marc Abraham et Les Trois Anges (Abraham and the Three Angels) 1931-39 S. 205 11 7/8'' x 9 1/2'' Etching with hand-coloring in watercolor on Arches wove paper. Initialled `M. Ch.' in pencil and numbered. From the edition of 100 (aside from the black and white unsigned edition of 275 and 20 hors de commerce). One of 105 etchings comprising ``La Bible''. Published in 1956 by Teriade, Paris. ``La Bible'' is one of Chagall's most important works. The work was originally commissioned by Ambroise Vollard in 1930. The artist spent the next eight years from 1931 to 1939 etching the plates. Printing of the plates took place after the War, at first in Maurice Potin's studio and later at Raymond Haasen's. The copper plates were subsequently cancelled and given to the Musee National Message Biblique in Nice by Marc and Vava Chagall.
