Founded in 1993 as "The Black Pearl Gem Company", the "Tahia Collins" company was re-branded in 2005 under the name of the company's owner and designer, Tahia Collins, specializing in her exclusive designs and creations. These exclusive Tahitian pearl jewelry designs feature only the rarest pearls in the most exotic of colors from the top 1% of each pearl harvest. These pearls are produced through a grafting operation performed by a skilled technician on the "Pinctada Margaritifera" or "Black Lipped Oyster" of French Polynesia. Each pearl can take up to 18 to 24 months to produce compared to only 5 or 6 months for a traditional white pearl.
