236931 Rembrandt Van Rijn Bust of a Man Wearing a High Cap, three quarters right 1630 B. , Holl. 321; BB.30-F 4'' x 3 1/4'' Etching on thin laid paper with clean, large margins. Signed and dated in the plate, RL 1630, upper left. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two, White and Boon's second state of two and Nowell Eusticke's sixth state of six, after the reduction of the plate to 102 mm X 84 mm and after the slipt stroke across the right ear is partially burnished out. According to Nowell Eusticke a late sixth state impression as issued by Bernard (1845) showing the strong dark patch to the left of the white collar above the right shoulder of the sitter. Nowell Eusticke comments that this sixth state appears "stronger than the first state". According to Schwartz, although this image is rumored to be Rembrandt's father, none of the suggested identifications of Rembrandt's father in etchings, drawings or paintings rests on reliable evidence.
