163722 Rembrandt Van Rijn The Crucifixion: Small Plate B., Holl. 80;BB. 35-1 1635 3 3/4'' x 2 5/8'' Etching on thin laid paper with small margins. Signed Rembrandt f., upper margin, center. Biorklund Barnard's first and only state, Nowell Eusticke's first state of four, before the break in the outline of Christ's stomach just above the loin cloth is closed, and the long diagonal left to right scratch below the name is still evident. A late first state impression as issued by Jean (1810) with the small black spots to the right of Christ's head. According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the New Testament, Matthew 27:33-56.
