208033 Chagall, Marc Et Sur la Terre 1977 C. 103 12 1/2'' x 9 1/4'' Etching on BFK Rives wove paper. One of 15 etchings comprising the portfolio titled 'Et Sur la Terre' with text by Andre Malraux. Numbered on the justification page from the edition of 205 (an edition of 25 with an additional etching on Japon Imperial paper and a Roman numbered edition of 20 also exists). Signed on the justification page by the artist and Andre Malraux. Published by Maeght, Paris. Executed in 1977, Et Sur la Terre was a collaborative effort between Chagall and his long time friend Andre Malraux. Malraux won the Nobel Prize for Literature and was a Minister of Culture for the goverment of Charles de Gaulle. The 15 etchings bring to light Malraux's 1939 text detailing his experiences in the Spanish Civil War. A hero in the Resistance against the Nazis, Malraux's text is beautifully illuminated in this collection of etchings.
