231667 Rembrandt Van Rijn The Golf Player 1654 B., Holl. 125; H. 272; BB 54-A 3 11/16'' x 5 9/16'' Etching on thick, cream laid paper with wide margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrandt f. 1654, lower left. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two, White and Boon's second state of two, and Nowell Eusticke's second state of three after the blank spaces along the top border are filled in where the acid failed. According to Nowell Eusticke, an early second state impression as issued by P.F. Basan (1785-1797) with the clear rust spots to the left of the player and square corners. Nowell Eusticke refers to this impression as a "strong sharp impression (looking better than most first states)".
