153960 Chagall, Marc Acrobate et Violiniste 1968 C.64 13 3/4'' x 15 1/2'' Etching in color inked 'a la poupee' in the manner of a monotype on cream wove paper. Signed in pencil lower right and annotated `E.A.' Annotated "1er etat rehauts de couleur (monotype) (first state with additions of color)." by the printer, Jacques Frelaut, in pencil on the verso. An extremely rare and historically significant proof with hand-painted applications of color, presumably to direct the coloration of the final edition state, which featured color aquatint. A unique work.
