220242 Rembrandt Van Rijn Nude Man Seated on the Ground 3 13/16'' x 6 5/8'' 1646 B., Holl. 196; BB. 46-C Etching on thick laid paper with large, clean margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrandt f. 1646, lower left. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two, White and Boon's second state of two, and Nowell Eusticke's third state of four, after the narrow white strip of the left forearm is shaded, vertical shading is added on the upper part of the left thigh, and the edges of the plate trimmed and the corners rounded. According to Nowell Eusticke, an latee third state impression as issued by Jean (c. 1810), still showing the V shaped scratch to the left of the man's head, and the scratch running through the second finger of the left hand.
