174387 Renoir, Pierre-Auguste Buste d'Enfant, Tourne a Droite 1908 Delteil 22 5 1/4'' x 3 3/4'' Soft ground etching on cream laid paper with wide margins. From the first and only state. Published by Theodore Duret, in "Die Impressionisten", Berlin, Bruno Cassirer, 1914. In soft ground etching the lines look like pencil or crayon lines, and are made by drawing on a piece of paper that covers a soft wax coating on the plate. When the paper is lifted off, it removes the wax where the pencil pressed, but some wax stays in the lines in the pattern of the paper grain.
