207873 Rembrandt Van Rijn Christ & Woman of Samaria: Arched Print B., Holl. 70; BB 57-B 1657 5'' x 6 1/4'' Etching and drypoint on thin laid paper with clean, substantial margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrandt f. 1657, (in Christ's cloak to the left of the well). Biorklund Barnards third state of three, White and Boon's third state of three, Nowell Eusticke's fourth state of five after the addition of the horizontal slipt stroke across the spire in the background, and the additional work of the woman's hair to the left and the mouth and eyes of Christ reworked. An early fourth state impression as issued by P.F. Basan (1785-1797) showing the two strong horizontal lines above the left pupil of Christ's eye. According to Schwartz, this is a depiction from the New Testament John 4:5-42.
