153926 Rembrandt Van Rijn Christ Crucified between the Two Thieves: An Oval Etching c.1641 B. 79, H. 173, BB. 41-2 5 1/4'' x 3 7/8'' Etching and drypoint on laid paper with thin to threadbare margins. Biorklund Barnard's second state of two, White and Boon's second state of two, and Nowell Eusticke's second state of three, showing the left arm of the far left cross rounded and not touching the border. According to Nowell Esticke, an early to intermediate second state impression after the Watelet retouch (C. 1760), showing the fine diagonal shading above Christ's head and the central cross, below the scroll and in the space to the left of Christ's back. Also with burr in the shadows. Nowell Eusticke refers to this impression as "clear" and "good". According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the New Testament, Mathew 27:33-56.
