207782 Rembrandt Van Rijn Clement de Jonghe, Printseller 1651 B., Holl. 272; BB. 51-C 8'' x 6 1/4'' Etching with drypoint and burin on beige laid paper with large clean margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrandt f. 1651, lower right. Biorklund Barnard's sixth state of six, White and Boon's sixth state of six, and Nowell Eusticke's eighth state of nine, after considerable shading is added to upper right corner of irregular arch with heavy irregular diagonals, and triangular patch on the chair which was burnished out in the fifth state is restored. According to Nowell Eusticke an early eighth state impression as issued by Jean (1810) with the impression being "very strong." According to Schwartz, and Ash and Fletcher, De Jonghe's estate included upon his death in 1679, seventy four plates of Rembrandt's etchings.
