118302 Oriental Carpet A Fine Heriz Carpet, Northwest early 20th century 154'' x 120'' (12'10" x 10') The sand-de-boeuf field with angular palmette and leafy vine around stepped shaded indigo medallion with bold hooked palmette pendants containing palmette cartouches enclosing dusky-pink and green radiating floral centrepiece, ivory spandrels similar, in shaded indigo border of palmettes, rosettes, and leafy vine between yellow and dusky-pink floral stripes. The Heriz carpet field is made from cotton that has been dyed "Heriz red," a deep, blood colored hue. The most characteristic feature of this style of Persian carpet is the central, rectangular medallion. On average there are 250 knots per square inch in Heriz carpets. Brown, beige, and turquoise hues that are intermixed with the "Heriz red" indicate older carpet pieces. Antique Heriz carpets are among the highest quality Persian carpet on the market.
