A Fine Javan Amir Khis Tabriz
Oriental Carpet
118309 Oriental Carpet A Fine Javan Amir Khis Tabriz Carpet, Northwest Persia early 20th century 150'' x 111'' (12'6" x 9'3") The light pistachio-green field with various stylised flowering trees, animals and birds around pale yellow medallion with pendants containing arabesques and delicate floral tendrils enclosing light blue floral and bird centrepiece, in light blue and pale yellow interlocked border of polychrome floral motifs between indigo and pale yellow palmette and hooked bars stripes, outer plain stripe, signed and numbered on ends. The pictorial effect on the field of this Tabriz rug is highly unique. As is characteristic of the Tabriz style, an oval medallion occupies the center of the carpet field. However, unlike the customary palmette and floral motifs, the Javan Amir Khis design is filled with a small forest of trees and perched birds. The carpet depicts a mythical forest or heavenly garden. By creating a setting, this carpet continues the tradition of using carpets to tell stories, a tradition that began in Persia nearly 2,500 years ago.
