118315 Oriental Carpet A Fine Kashan Carpet, Central Persia 164'' x 121'' (13'8" x 10'1") late 19th or early 20th century The eau-de-Nil field with bold scrolling palmette arabesques and delicate floral tendrils around stylised open floral medallion, in broad eau-de-Nil border of similar design between ivory palmette and arabesque stripes, outer floral meander and plain stripes. Kashan is the city of Persia that produces the most carpets. The colors of the Kashan carpet-red, blue, and ivory- are exceptionally brilliant. The warps and wefts of the Kashan carpet have a silk-cotton blend base. The knot density varies drastically from carpet to carpet. These carpets are highly decorative and the most hard wearing.
