118310 Oriental Carpet A Fine Kirman Carpet, South Persia late 19th century 185'' x 125'' (15'5" x 10'5") The light blue field with stylised Ardebil design of meandering floral vine around concentric medallion with lamp pendants issuing multiple floral palmettes, open spandrels similar in light blue border of pale rust floral cartouches, rosettes and delicate floral meander between double floral meander stripes, outer plain stripe. Called the "thousand flower" design, the Kirman style of carpet design is a garden of palmettes, cypresses, and floral motifs. Of all the Persian carpet styles, the Kirman style has the highest knot density, 1200 knots per square inch on average. Made from finely spun wool rather than cotton, these carpets are of the finest quality. The Kirman rug may be used as a wall hanging as well as for floor use.
