118300 Oriental Carpet A Fine Qum Carpet of Garden Design Central Persia,early 20th century 165'' x 113'' (13'9" x 9'5") The field with various polychrome rectangular and square panels containing multicoloured palmettes, stylised floral prayer panels and floral medallions, in ice-blue border of rosettes, floral and leafy vine between floral arabesques and plain stripes, very good condition. Garden carpets, usually from the north and central Persia, contain an inner field of rectangular plots that resemble the traditional Persian garden plan. In the Qum style, the plots are filled with vase motifs, floral designs and palmettes. The organization of the rectangular plots may appear random, but further study shows a precise symmetry. The warps and wefts of the Qum carpet are made from cotton and wool, respectively.
