A Fine Shatterian Kashan Carpe
Oriental Carpet
118317 Oriental Carpet A Fine Shatterian Kashan Carpet, Central Persia early 20th century 189'' x 136'' (15'9" x 11'4") The deep blue field with overall design of scrolling floral and leafy vine issuing polychrome palmettes, in broad border bold palmettes, arabesques and floral meander between floral arabesque stripes, outer plain stripe, signature cartouche with date at one end. Kashan is the city of Persia that has, historically, produced the most carpets. The colors of the Kashan carpet-red, blue, and ivory- are exceptionally brilliant. The warps and wefts of the Kashan carpet have a silk-cotton blend base. The knot density varies drastically from carpet to carpet. These carpets are highly decorative and the most hard wearing. Unlike other styles of Persian carpets, the Kashan carpet does not have a central medallion. Instead, palmettes and floral meanders direct the eye to a central point, creating a subtle symmetry. Great attention is given to the detail of all three border stripes, adding to the feeling of movement in the Kashan carpet.
